Advanced Grain Trading Workshop: Beyond Hedging 101

This advanced grain trading workshop will go beyond the basic mechanics of hedging to explore more subtle and advanced topics such as: why basis and calendar spreads move the way that they do; how basis, calendar spreads & futures interact with one another; which basis markets tend to be the most volatile; seasonality; the value of freight and storage; what factors determine if a market will be in a carry or inverse; anticipatory spreading and processing margins. We will also look at cash contracts elevators can offer to originate bushels.

An understanding of basic hedging principles will very helpful in participating in this class.

Grain Quality Management Workshop

The new Grain Quality Workshop will teach the scientific principles and advanced practical skills to further increase the professional competence of grain industry employees. Participants will spend about half of the time learning hands-on and the other half in a classroom setting with plenty of time for Q&A, discussion and exercises. Participants will receive a hard copy of course materials and a digital copy of additional resource materials including spreadsheets and apps. As a result of attending this workshop, participants will better understand how to preserve stored grain quality, minimize inventory shrink and maximize the bottom line.
